Lintec’s Asphalt Plant Expedites Tanzania’s Latest Airport

The New Dodoma Msalato International Airport in Tanzania is being built using the popular Lintec CSD2500B Containerized Asphalt Mixing Plant.

For its work on Tanzania’s New Dodoma Msalato International Airport, Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) has acquired a Lintec CSD2500B Containerized Asphalt Mixing Plant. The plant, which is located about 15 kilometers outside the city center at the new airport in the Masarato neighborhood, started producing in September 2023.

Key facilities including a new runway, taxiway, apron, and auxiliary roads are being built with the plant’s assistance. Concurrently, work is being done on new hangars, terminals, firefighting apparatuses, electromechanical installations, and an airport tower in other locations.

“Several factors drove our decision to invest in the Lintec CSD2500B Containerized Asphalt Mixing Plant,” says a spokesperson from POWERCHINA. “Firstly, we prioritize safety and reliability in all our operations, and with Lintec & Linnhoff’s German-engineered equipment, we are confident in the highest standards of performance and quality.”

Throughout the project’s production, the Lintec CSD2500B has been crucial in ensuring the supply of premium asphalt mixtures.

“In addition, the Lintec CSD2500B’s containerized design ensures uninterrupted operations despite Tanzania’s challenging rainy seasons, while its modular construction delivers cost efficiency through low transport expenses and easy installation,” adds POWERCHINA’s spokesperson.

POWERCHINA has a long-standing relationship with Lintec & Linnhoff, having previously purchased a range of asphalt mixing plants from the company, including units from the CSM and CSD series. These have been used across a range of projects dating back to 2010.

Modular construction simplified

Built in ISO certified sea containers, the Lintec Containerized Asphalt Mixing Plants are the first of their kind in the industry, featuring a modular construction that allows for easy transportation and convenient installation. The Lintec CSD2500B model has a capacity of 160tph and a batch size of 1650/1600kg.

Additionally, the Lintec Containerized Asphalt Mixing Plants highlights sustainability with pollution control units and optional recycling systems. The design also ensures security with a central lockable access point, along with convenient walkways and staircases for easy maintenance.

All plants certify smooth setup by pre-assembling each plant at the manufacturing stage, before subjecting them to rigorous testing to ensure the highest reliability. With low shipping costs and streamlined transportation, Lintec provides a sustainable and cost-effective solution for diverse projects.

In addition, Lintec’s unique double screen drum technology eliminates the need for hot elevator and vibrating screens while reducing the need for maintenance. Combining the heating and screening of the minerals in a single process unit offers the substantial advantage of delivering significant energy savings.

Growing success

Lintec & Linnhoff is a multinational distributor and manufacturer of concrete and asphalt products under the Lintec and Linnhoff brand names. It manufactures asphalt mixing plants, concrete batching machines, pavement-related technology, and specialized concrete cooling systems.

The Lintec CSD2500B Containerised Asphalt Mixing Plant has been used on other major projects such as the Yap Island International Airport in Micronesia and the Sihanouk International Airport in Cambodia.

Lintec & Linnhoff plants have also contributed to some of the world’s most notable construction achievements, such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge, the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, the Palm Island in Dubai, the Storebaelt Bridge in Denmark, the Merdeka 118 Tower in Malaysia, and Singapore’s first Polder Project.

Project Details

In terms of improving the connection and infrastructure of Tanzania’s political capital and the larger East African region, the project represents a major turning point. The African Development Bank loaned $330 million to the Tanzanian government, which signed a contract on September 13, 2021, to build the airport, investing $55 million.

The runway and terminal will be the focus of the first phase of the two-phase construction. When the second phase is finished, the airport will be able to handle 1.5 million passengers a year, depending on demand.

By April 2025, the project is expected to be finished, having already reached the halfway point. The most noteworthy accomplishment to date is the building of a runway that is 60 meters wide and 3.6 kilometers long.
