Mammoet Breaks Record for Heaviest Transport in Alberta

Mammoet Breaks Record for Heaviest Transport in Alberta

In the Industrial Heartland of Alberta, Mammoet recently moved two Ethylene Oxide (EO) reactors from Dacro Industries to Shell Scotford. These reactors, which weigh 670 tonnes apiece and have a diameter of around 8.4 meters and a length of just 23 meters, are essential to the manufacture of downstream petroleum products.

Mammoet’s technical team had to come up with creative solutions to deal with the reactors’ short length in relation to their weight, which led to a record-breaking scenario where the total vehicle weight required for transportation was almost double the weight of the payload.

With a gross vehicle weight of 1.76 million kg, the equipment needed to carry the EO reactors was the biggest cargo ever moved on Alberta roadways. To move the specifically made frame for the reactors onto the trailers, the transport operation used two pull trucks and six push trucks, resulting in a transport train that was somewhat longer than 140 meters.
