Berger Fahrzeugtechnik Gmbh And Schmitz Cargobull AG Plan Strategic Partnership

Berger Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH, the specialist for lightweight vehicles from Tyrol, Austria, and Schmitz Cargobull AG, provider of semi-trailers, trailers and bodies from Münsterland, have signed an agreement according to which Schmitz Cargobull will acquire a 49 percent share in Berger Vehicle technology acquired. The companies want to pool their competencies to offer sustainable and efficient transport solutions in Europe. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities.

Gerhard Berger, owner of Berger Fahrzeugtechnik, explains: “The cooperation with Schmitz Cargobull is a win-win situation for all parties. As a specialist in premium lightweight vehicles, we at Berger Fahrzeugtechnik are already active in a very focused segment across Europe and enable our customers to achieve cost- and resource-efficient transport through payload optimization. Through the partnership with Schmitz Cargobull, we have the opportunity to make BergerEcotrail even more widely known and marketed in the future. Using the Schmitz Cargobull network in particular opens up a variety of new opportunities in product, service and market development.”

BergerEcotrail vehicles are offered with the same services via the Schmitz Cargobull network

“The strategic partnership with Berger Fahrzeugtechnik opens up new perspectives for product development. We also want to create real added value for BergerEcotrail customers by offering pioneering solutions such as: “For example, we can seamlessly integrate the Schmitz Cargobull TrailerConnect® telematics,” says Andreas Schmitz, CEO of Schmitz Cargobull. He explains: “With this cooperation we are strengthening our position as a provider of sustainable and efficient transport solutions in Europe. It also offers good opportunities to further develop our product portfolio and find synergies for the use of common parts concepts or the expansion of trailer telematics.”

The BergerEcoTrail vehicles are offered via the Schmitz Cargobull network with the same services as are available for Schmitz Cargobull vehicles.

Boris Billich, Head of Sales at Schmitz Cargobull: “We plan to strengthen the Schmitz Cargobull service organization so that all services, in particular a comprehensive supply of spare parts for both product families, will be available throughout Europe.” Both companies point out that the transaction is subject to the approval of the relevant competition authorities. Berger Fahrzeugtechnik and Schmitz Cargobull are confident that the partnership will take effect shortly and are convinced that the collaboration will have positive effects for their customers.
