Crane Korea Expands Its Fleet With Two New Grove Five-Axle All-Terrain Cranes

Crane Korea Expands Its Fleet With Two New Grove Five-Axle All-Terrain Cranes
  • The Company ordered a GMK5150XL and GMK5250XL-1 to support its growing roster of projects, including constructing a new semiconductor factory in Pyeongtaek.
  • Long boom lengths, high capacities, and compact footprints, make the two cranes ideal for the wide range of projects Crane Korea supports.

Crane Korea has signed a deal for two new Grove all-terrain cranes, one GMK5150XL and one GMK5250XL-1. The latest orders further expand its rental fleet, which includes several Grove mobile cranes, including three GMK5250XL-1 units. For over 12 years, the South Korean rental company has specialized in mobile crane rental, providing high-quality machines to projects across the country.

“We already own eight Grove cranes and we were looking for new models with outstanding lifting capacities to add to our fleet,” said Jung-Geu Park, president, Crane Korea. “We’ve always been extremely satisfied with the consistent performance and reliable operation of our Grove cranes, and so have our customers. We like Grove all-terrain cranes because we often work on jobsites with space constraints, so their compact design speeds up access and setup, even in tricky conditions. With their long boom lengths, we also have an advantage supporting projects that require additional reach.”

Five-axle favorites

The Grove GMK5250XL-1 has a 78.5 m TWIN-LOCK boom, the longest in its class, and this can be extended up to 109 m with the addition of a jib plus inserts. It’s a crane that Crane Korea knows well, with three units already in the company’s fleet. Power comes from a Mercedes OM471LA EUROMOT 5 engine, which drives both the carrier and the superstructure. The latest engine technology included on the GMK5250XL-1 means it can deliver up to 30% lower fuel costs compared with previous-generation models.

The Grove GMK5150XL, meanwhile, is redefining the five-axle, 150 t class by offering almost 69 m of main boom. At 68.7 m it can handle 8.1 t; at 66 m it lifts 9.5 t, and at almost 60 m it lifts an incredible 13 t. These load charts are truly unmatched. The GMK5150XL’s load charts in taxi configuration are also best-in-class, ensuring easy roadability and transport savings for owners.

Jong-Seoung Park, general manager of Manitowoc in Korea, said: “We are delighted that Grove cranes have played such an important role in helping Crane Korea achieve their goals. We thank them for their confidence in our products and look forward to seeing these new units get to work in 2023.”

Crane Korea already owns two Grove GMK4100L cranes, three GMK5250XL-1 cranes, and three GMK6300L-1 cranes. It will receive its Grove GMK5250XL-1 in June 2023, while the GMK5150XL-1 will arrive in December 2023. Several other crane companies in South Korea are also scheduled to receive Grove cranes in 2023, as they support construction projects at home, and also overseas.
