Liebherr Is Rewriting The Future Of Heavy Equipment At bauma 2025

Munich, April 2025 – Electrification, autonomy, and real-world innovation—Liebherr is ticking every box at Bauma 2025. But it’s more than a flashy showcase. From mining to material handling, Liebherr is clearly laying the groundwork for a cleaner, smarter, and more efficient future. Three standout developments lead the charge: the T 264 Battery Electric Mining Truck, the R 9400 E Electric Excavator, and a fully autonomous wheel loader.

T 264 Battery Electric Mining Truck

This isn’t just a big truck with a big battery—it’s a big leap forward. The T 264 weighs in at 240 tonnes and runs entirely on a 3.2 MW battery built in collaboration with Fortescue Zero, blending Formula 1-level innovation with mining-grade muscle. The truck supports both static and dynamic charging, including Fortescue’s 6 MW robotic charger, capable of a full charge in under an hour.

Even more impressive? It’s also fully autonomous. Using Liebherr’s Autonomous Haulage Solution (AHS), the T 264 can manage its own routes and recharge schedules, optimizing traffic flow and energy use without human intervention. It’s the kind of technology that transforms not just operations—but entire mine sites.

R 9400 E Electric Excavator

Liebherr isn’t new to electric excavators. With over 40 years of experience in the space, the R 9400 E is a 350-tonne machine that proves zero-emission equipment can still deliver serious performance. It’s equipped with a 300-meter cable reel system, giving operators freedom to move while keeping emissions at zero.

Customer feedback confirms that the R 9400 E matches the power and productivity of its diesel sibling, while also cutting operating costs and carbon output—making it a smart long-term investment for forward-thinking mines.

Autonomous Wheel Loader

Then there’s the autonomous wheel loader—a machine that turns heads and redefines what’s possible on a job site. No operator, no joystick, no remote control. Just full, intelligent autonomy.

What sets it apart is ease of use: there’s no need to pre-program paths or manually set commands. The system can interpret basic tasks and figure out how to move material from A to B on its own, even in dynamic environments. That means operators can step away from repetitive loading tasks and focus on more complex responsibilities—making operations safer, faster, and more productive.

This isn’t just a concept either. These machines have already been used by pilot customers in real-world conditions—some for years—proving their reliability and readiness for the market. And while autonomy is being launched first for Liebherr’s larger XPower wheel loaders (L 550 to L 586), plans are already in motion to bring this tech to smaller models as well.
