The city of Karawang is home to the largest industrial district in Indonesia. Every day its roads carry heavy traffic, including trucks that support factories and vehicles that transport workers.

“Because Karawang is located near the capital city of Jakarta, it has a strong transportation network,” said Ikida Ariansyah, one of the General Managers in a State-owned company in Indonesia.” “That’s why it’s crucial to maintain transportation infrastructures, especially roads.”

An Ammann ARX 40-2 Tandem Roller recently went to work on key Karawang highways, compacting asphalt that had been placed as part of ongoing road repairs. “The ARX 40-2 is the perfect machine to help with repair of Karawang area roads that are heavily affected by bad weather and heavy vehicles, such as trucks, that constantly pass by,” said Mr. Ariansyah.

“With its efficient and productive compaction, along with exceptional ergonomics and hassle-free serviceability, the ARX 40-2 plays an important role in helping to realize the Indonesian government’s goals of improving road infrastructures as a way to boost the country’s economic growth.”

Important features of the ARX 40-2 include an electronic drive lever, which enables smooth starts and stops – particularly important when compacting asphalt. An articulation joint with oscillation enables constant contact with the surface, essential to achieving high quality compaction. Downtime is limited thanks to a multi-level filtration system with large water tank for extended intervals between fillings.

The level of industry in Karawang is impressive. As of 2018, there were nearly 14 million hectares of land plotted as industrial – and nearly 1,800 factories operating in the area, according to Karawang governmental statistics. Those industries include construction, automotive and fast-moving consumer goods.
