In Vietnam, PALFINGER MARINE is serving the first two intertidal wind farms with 26 of its proven davit cranes. After the commercial operation of the Hiep Thanh wind farm recently started, PALFINGER has successfully entered the Vietnamese wind market.
With more than 3,000 kilometers of coastline and its high wind power potential, Vietnam is a fast-growing hotspot for the global wind industry. Thanks to its expertise and high quality standards, PALFINGER was selected to supply the new Vietnamese intertidal wind farms Hiep Thanh and Binh Dai with 26 davit cranes, one for each wind turbine. While Hiep Thanh, which is near Tra Vinh province, has recently been commissioned, the Binh Dai wind farm near Ben Tre province is soon to be commissioned.
Tailor-made cranes for special requirements
Hiep Thanh Wind Farm has 19 wind turbines that will generate 295 GWh/year of renewable energy. This power will supply up to 180,000 Vietnamese households with clean energy. Compared to offshore wind farms, intertidal wind farms such as Hiep Thanh and Binh Dai use onshore turbines to generate renewable energy. Due to the low wave height in the coastal area, the requirements of the cranes provided by PALFINGER also differ. For this reason, the davit cranes were adapted to the respective conditions around the wind farm. A different characteristic concerns, for example, the dimensions of the cranes, which are smaller compared to offshore wind cranes.
Emerging sector in a new market
Especially for this project, PALFINGER MARINE’s headquarters in Salzburg, Austria, worked very closely with its Singapore location to serve both new Vietnamese wind farms with lifting solutions tailored to their needs. Gunther Fleck, Vice President Sales & Service Region Marine at PALFINGER, says: “We are thrilled to be entering an emerging sector into a new market with our reliable PALFINGER lifting solutions. With our technical competence in safe and fast material transport on offshore wind platforms, we offer the best service for the new intertidal wind farms in Vietnam as well as ‘best in class’ services for our partners in the region.”
