Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV (HCME) is meeting the growing need for emission-free equipment and strengthening its commitment to the creation of a sustainable future with the introduction of a 14-tonne battery-powered excavator. As well as zero exhaust emissions, the ZE135-7EB delivers lower noise levels, enhanced efficiency and fewer maintenance requirements and less downtime than conventional models.

The new ZE135-7EB provides equally high levels of performance to the conventional ZX135-7 model. Customers will be able to work on a broad range of projects with the ZE135-7EB, including urban construction sites and residential building developments, where noise and emission levels are regulated by local and national authorities. It is available with a monoblock or two-piece boom for added versatility.

Meeting customer needs

The new model is the largest electric excavator to be launched by HCME in Europe. It has a rated power of 160kW and the battery capacity of 298kWh is sufficient for up to six hours of operation (depending on the application). The battery can be completely recharged within two hours due to CCS2 rapid-charging technology.

Owners can expect reduced maintenance costs and downtime, compared to diesel-powered excavators. The status of the electric drive system, including battery level and motor load factor, can be monitored remotely. Reduced external sound levels allow greater flexibility for working hours and applications in environmentally sensitive areas. Safety is enhanced by the Aerial Angle camera system, which provides a 270-degree bird’s-eye view of the job site.

Developing sustainable innovations

The ZE135-7EB has been designed and produced as a collaboration between Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd and Germany company KTEG.

“Our largest battery-powered excavator on display at Intermat is capable of working productively and efficiently on urban and residential construction projects,” says Burak Besler, HCME Product Manager Excavators. “We are working hard to meet the growing demand for zero-emission equipment and listening carefully to our customers’ requirements for improved safety, increased productivity and reduced life-cycle costs.”
